Specializing as a nurse educator can offer you greater career flexibility and the chance to pass on your hard-earned knowledge to future generations of nurses.
What You Will Learn
The Nurse Educator track includes teaching and learning strategies applicable to nursing and how to adapt them to different settings—such as hospitals and schools of nursing. You’ll hone your teaching skills by preparing, presenting and evaluating actual classes during a guided practicum, giving you valuable hands-on experience. The curriculum also addresses topics including:
- Educational theory for adult learners
- Curriculum design
- Curriculum evaluation
- Lesson planning
- How to create course objectives
- Student evaluation techniques
In the past, many nurses wishing to enter the field of nurse education had to learn teaching techniques on the job. SXU’s online MSN- Nurse Educator program provides you with a mix of classroom learning and hands-on experience to give you the skills and knowledge you need to be an effective instructor from day one. The clinical practicum portion of the Nurse Educator track gives students the opportunity to collaborate with a MSN-prepared preceptor in the identified area of advanced nursing practice in order to develop in-depth knowledge and expertise in a particular area of nursing that includes graduate-level clinical practice content and experiences, and expand their exposure to a variety of clinical situations and management strategies.
