Saint Xavier University is proud to announce that the university president, Christine M. Wiseman, J.D., has been appointed to the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE). The 16-member board is responsible for overseeing the state’s programs, activities and policies related to higher education.
Wiseman has extensive experience in the field. She is the immediate past provost of Loyola University Chicago (2007-2010), where she also served as a tenured law professor. Before that, Wiseman was Vice President of Academic Affairs at Creighton University, where a scholarship for disadvantaged women was established in her name, and Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs at Marquette University. From 2006 to 2012, she served on the board of trustees of St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia and was the chair of its Academic Affairs Committee.
Wiseman has received numerous honors and awards through her career. Earlier this year she was named one of the “100 Women of Influence” list in Today’s Chicago Woman. She was also recognized as one of the “Most Powerful and Influential” women in Illinois by the National Diversity Council in 2010 and as a “Woman of Influence” by the Wisconsin Business Journal in 2000. also In 1989 Wiseman received the Wisconsin Civil Liberties Union Volunteer Attorney of the Year Award for her Texas death row representation.
Wiseman’s commitment to excellence in education is reflected in Saint Xavier’s Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction program.
